Choosing a new Energy Supplier (pt. 2)
Shortly after sending out my initial email to the energy suppliers listed on poweryourway.com I landed a new job and this project fell off the table for a little bit.Â
I should’ve known that it would only be a matter of time before ConEd caused this topic to came up again. This time, their automatic payment program didn’t draw funds for last months bills, resulting in a decent sized gas/energy bill for this month. Strangely enough, U.S. Energy Savings Corp. sent me an email this morning with their current rates.
While Con Ed is charging me 22.36¢ for the first 250 kilawatt hours and 21.9333¢ for the next 60 KWHs, U.S. Energy Savings Corp. charges a flat rate of 13¢ per KWH of electricity used (however, they do have you sign a 4-5 year contract). So I called in and asked for the paperwork required to sign up. Another nice thing is that they don’t charge the 4% sales tax that ConEd does.
So far I’ve received responses from the following companies:
US Energy Savings: 13¢/KWH for electric and $1.399/Therm for gas – 4 to 5 year fixed rate contract (1.5¢ per KWH estimated use if contract is broken early).
MX Energy: 15¢/KWH (variable rate) for electric and $1.39/Therm for gas.
Columbia utilities: $1.05/Therm (variable rate) for gas — no contracts or commitments.
IDT: 13.8 ¢/KWH for electric and $1.13/Therm (and 7% off delivery charges) for gas – no contracts or commitments.
I AM REQUESTING INFORMATION ON SOME OF YOUR LOWER RATES UTILITY SERVICES.
To obtain rates for your area, you would have to contact the energy suppliers directly.
[…] After almost a year since my initial inquiries (followup 1, part 2) to the PowerYourWay ESCOs, I’ve decided to look back into the Con Edison residential gas/energy supplier alternatives listed on PowerYourWay.com. A quick search of the ESCOs that might be able to service my area resulted in a list of companies (those that don’t provide residential service are in italic type). […]
