Water Meter Remote
Not that this is anything more than a slight inconvenience, but one of the to do list items was to find out how to get my water meter remote* reinstalled. The DEP actually sent someone out here on the 30th to confirm that the remote was not hooked up, since then I’ve received one voice mail from a woman never at her desk. Until I hear back, Con Ed and DEP agents will just have to use a mirror to take a water meter reading (the afore-referenced monkeys also positioned the water meter behind a wall).
* A water meter remote allows the DEP or ConEd to check the water meter from outside the building by just swiping a device in front of a small panel mounted on a building’s exterior. The wire that connected the remote (that, prior to renovation) to the exterior panel, was removed by the semi-retarded monkeys that performed the previous owner’s renovation work (and, much like the gas service, chimney flue and a number of other items was never replaced).
Are you going to allow them to install the remote on the outside of the house? Is this what they’ll be doing on Friday?
Nope, they won’t be installing the remote outside of the building – it doesn’t make much sense to me. The power and gas meters are inside and read by Con Ed – less than a foot from the water meter. I would have to let Con Ed in anyay to read the meters, so why should I allow them to punch a hole through the building’s foundation? It certainly wouldn’t benefit me or anyone else living there.
The benefit is that you won’t need to be home when they come to read the meter. You could drill the hole yourself (only about 1/8″ diameter) and have them run the cable and you could caulk it up. That way, you don’t need to worry having weirdo’s in your house every month or so to read the meters.
