So I had to report myself

Contrary to the information I had been told earlier, a building must have a complaint or violation active before the Dept. of buildings will send an inspector out.

Now the DoB sends out inspectors based on a priority level status. Depending on the severity of the complaint, an inspector will visit the property anywhere from 24 hours to 6 weeks after a complaint has been lodged.

I couldn’t think of anyone better to lodge the complaint against me than me. Called 311 and told them that I was concerned about the building’s structural integrety because of the large gap in the foundation that exposed the brick of my neighbors foundation.

Update: same day, 5 hours later:

Dept of buildings had someone out to my place within a few hours of the complaint being filed to attach a large sign to my front door “requesting” that I contact the DoB as soon as possible. So much for 6 weeks. =P
